Primary research methods:
Since access to users was restricted, a majority of the UX research that we conducted relied heavily on interviews with S.M.E's (subject matter experts). We also had several team members with prior experience in similar projects, and we utilized their expertise.
During the analysis of the research findings, our team prioritized a comprehensive examination of user actions, system feedback, and decision points. This approach enabled them to compile a comprehensive list of requirements, features, and screens necessary to effectively support each workflow.
During the course of the project, we faced several challenges, such as:
We developed preliminary concepts and workflows utilizing the Astro Space UX Design System wireframe theme. We gathered feedback from Subject Matter Experts on the low-fidelity wireframes and showcased them in internal design evaluations and more design input. We explored different concepts during the early stages, adopting a mindset of building, testing, and learning from mistakes.
Once we established a smooth flow and foundational design in the low-fidelity screens, we transitioned to Astro's dark theme and crafted more refined designs. Additionally, we constructed interactive prototypes to gather additional feedback and present in broader team gatherings.
Even though we faced several difficulties through our extensive research, expertise in the subject matter, and detailed prototypes, we managed to convince the project leads of the importance of UX. As a result, we successfully delivered a product that significantly enhanced user experiences.
